Cookie policy – Nzbookmakers

An information site about bookmakers uses only a modest set of technical tools. The sections below describe each group, its purpose and how a choice can be refused or altered. Cookies are small text files kept by a browser; local and session storage and counting pixels operate in a similar way.

The Privacy Act 2020 applies where cookies or similar tools collect personal information, through the information privacy principles of section 22. Collection serves a lawful purpose connected with the site (IPP 1), and people are told what is collected and for what reason (IPP 3). Safeguards for the information must be reasonable (IPP 5), retention must not outlast need (IPP 9), and disclosure outside New Zealand follows IPP 12. A choice in the banner may be altered at any point.

Essential files

The site depends on a few files: they hold a session open, spread traffic across servers, guard forms against abuse and note the banner choice. No separate choice is provided. Session files end when the browser closes, while the stored choice lasts for up to twelve months.

Functional and analytics files

Functional files recall settings, for instance the bookmaker table that was open last. Analytics files tally page views to show which pages are read. Neither type is set before the banner has been answered. IP addresses are shortened for analysis, and no profiles following behaviour across sites are built.

Third-party files

Embedded videos, maps and similar content can set their own files, subject to that provider’s privacy rules, and objections go to the provider. Nzbookmakers sets no advertising cookies for personalised ads unless the banner shows a clear choice.

Changing or withdrawing a choice

The "Cookie settings" link in the footer allows a choice to be changed whenever wanted, and withdrawal applies going forward. Browsers independently allow cookies to be blocked and cleared. Once necessary files are cleared, the banner comes back and a few features may be briefly affected.

Complaints

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner receives complaints about the handling of personal information. The site’s privacy policy has the details.
