About us – Nzbookmakers

Comparing bookmakers is the starting point of this site, and in New Zealand the comparison has an unusual shape because the market has one lawful provider. The site describes that market. It takes no bets, sells no tips and promises no returns.

What the site does not do

No bookmaker is recommended for money, no "sure" selections are sold and no earnings are promised. Legal and tax advice are outside its scope.

Checking a provider’s status

Legal status is the first thing checked about any bookmaker. TAB NZ alone has been allowed to offer racing and sports betting to people in New Zealand since 28 June 2025, through its brands TAB and Betcha. The Department of Internal Affairs and the texts of the Racing Industry Act 2020 and the Racing Industry Amendment Act 2025 are the sources. For that reason there is no register of bookmakers to consult. The Department states that an overseas company offering these bets is breaking the law, while the law is aimed at the operator and not the punter. A bookmaker’s position in any list is not a licence.

Source handling

Facts about a provider come from its terms, help pages and footers, and legal facts from the statutes and public bodies. Since odds and promotions change fast, any figure is dated and placed. Where sources fall silent, words replace numbers and nothing is made up.

Intended readers

Adults in New Zealand are addressed, because betting with TAB NZ begins at 18. For anyone who feels betting is taking over more than planned, the Gambling Helpline and Safer Gambling Aotearoa are available.
